ONE DETAIL WORTH KNOWING
A silently shortened formula is a wrong answer that looks right.
Both the editor and the spreadsheet were built here rather than dropped in from a library, and both enforce their limits by refusing rather than truncating. A formula that is too long is rejected and says so. It is never quietly cut to fit — because a cell showing a number nobody can trace back to what was typed is a worse outcome than a cell that would not accept the input.
